Salt lagoon Las Salinas Calp

Las Salinas is a salt lagoon. This saltwater lake originated by Calp’s salt mines. Those mines were used to preserve the fish caught in Calp.
This place has been used for salt harvest since Roman times. The operation of salt continued until 1988.

Today, the fishing is sold at the end of the afternoon on an auction. This fish auction is definitely a must see.

The saltwater lake Las Salinas de Calp is a protected nature reserve, where many live different bird species live (173 species) and also a colony of flamingos.
Several wooden trails have been built, making it possible the birds can be viewed on fairly small distance .

Penon de Ifach – Parc Natural

Peñón de Ifach is the name of the 332-metre-high chalk rock which juts out of the sea near Calp.
This Calp-typical rock is a unique natural park: Parque Natural, with beautiful flora and fauna. You can also climb the rock. There is a hiking trail through the nature park which gradually becomes narrower. It ends up on top of the rock. From there you have a beautiful view over the beach and the port of Calp.

In addition, you have a magnificent view of the saltwater lake Las Salinas, the old town of Calp and the island of Ibiza.
Due to the wide variety of plants and birds, this rock has been declared a unique natural park: Parc Natural.
